Between 2000 and 2010, Surprise, Arizona went from a population of over 30,000 to nearly 120,000. Named because founder Flora Mae Statler would have been “Surprise”d if it amounted to much, it is now the 10th largest growing city in Arizona. Surrounded by mountains, lakes and the Sonoran Desert it’s no surprise that this once agrarian city keeps building and growing.
Surprise has become a prime location for affordable real estate for people and businesses. One of the largest contributors to the booming population is the Sun City Grand retirement community which more than sextupled the city’s population. One of the main attractions is the Surprise Stadium, Spring Training home of the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals. Family events such as this, family movie nights and Fourth of July fireworks makes all contribute to Surprise’s home buying appeal.
