We have all been there...That last minute notice that friends or family is coming over and the house is...OK. We don’t always have time to make sure our home is making a good impression. An open house is the time where we actually do have time, and can make the space feel homier and inviting. Remember, we are selling a home, and prospective buyers NEED to feel drawn in and see themselves and their furniture being used in the space long term.
There are little details you can add to the space to achieve a warm and inviting presence. You want to appeal to a couple key senses.
- Sight: What are the buyers seeing? Is the paint color too dark? Are there little decorative pieces placed around the space so it doesn’t seem so empty (if not furnished when showing)? It’s nice to place flowers, candles, books, etc. in empty spaces to help the buyer envision what it could look like.
- Smell: What are they smelling while they are touring the home? A home hack to ensure your home smells great through the day is to get the clip-on air fresheners for vehicles and place them on your air vents. The air flow will make the whole house smell amazing. Stick with warm scents, like pumpkin, vanilla, apple spice, and cookies.
- Taste: We are in Arizona, and providing water on site shows compassion and hospitality. You care about the space, so that care should extend to those viewing the home as well. Other ideas to make prospective buyers feel welcome is having fresh coffee available as well as cookies and pastries.
