Arizona is a great place to retire – and the word is getting out! We’ve put together a list of just a few of our favorite active retirement communities in the area to help you narrow down all the choices.
Corte Bella
If you’re looking for a smaller community with a more intimate setting, look no further than Corte Bella in Sun City West with its 1,650 homes.
Corte Bella is a uniquely designed development that has considered all the important details that make up an upscale, active retiree community. Developers even went as far as collecting feedback from their target market to be sure the property would offer what others may not.
Residents of Corte Bella love it for its smaller and community-oriented atmosphere, and its resort-style feel with architectural inspirations from Europe and Southern California. The community also boasts a perfectly manicured private golf course, 12,000 square foot fitness center and spa, and a 9,000 square foot Social Hall for all their community events.
The homes in Corte Bella range from 1,100 to 3,200 square feet and have all the upgrades and amenities you’d expect from this kind of resort-style community.
Pebble Creek
The 6,200 home Pebble Creek in Goodyear, Arizona, is perfect for the active 55+ community. With endless amenities and social activities, retirement is far from a slower-paced lifestyle in this neighborhood.
Sure, Pebble Creek has all the country club amenities you’d expect from a resort-style property in Arizona – pools, spa, dance studio, fitness center – but the community has so much more. What about a clubhouse that has a café, gourmet hot dog stand, full-service restaurant and bar, billiards, a library, and a stadium-seating theater? They have it. Even if you’ve already retired, there is no getting bored at Pebble Creek.
Westbrook Village
If you’re looking to live in one of our favorite Arizona towns – Peoria – then head on over to Westbrook Village and discover this well-established active community in Central Arizona. Convenience is king in this community, as its close to the 101 Loop which provides access to the best spots in Phoenix Valley.
Westbrook Village offers condos or single-level homes anywhere from 1,000 to 2,578 square feet. In addition to its beautiful, low-maintenance homes, Westbrook Village offers over 40 social clubs, two clubhouses, pools, tennis courts, pickleball courts and two 18-hole championship golf courses. We dare you to be hard pressed to find something to do in Westbrook Village!
Sun City
If you’ve researched or toured any of Arizona’s 55+ active adult communities in the past, you’ve probably heard of Sun City. Sun City was not only the first active adult community in Arizona, it was the first in the country and now has over 26,000 homes.
While Sun City is a more established community compared to its new construction counterparts, the activity in this community shows no signs of slowing down. It offers reasonably priced homes and landscaping that has had years to develop. In addition to many newly remodeled homes, Sun City offers an amazing location with extensive shopping, golf-cart-legal streets, multiple golf courses, several fitness centers and swimming pools, and endless activities.
In the past, we’ve reviewed Sun City West, which was even voted as one of the Top 5 best active retirement communities in the nation by 55places.com.
